Fancy Women Cycling Tour, Izmir

Sema Gür ,has organized the ‘’fancy women cycling tour’’ for the first time in 2013 on World Car Free Day. Sema wanted to show everyone that women can ride a bicycle and can do it even with frilly skirts,fancy dresses and with high- heeled shoes.
Sema created an event on Facebook and invited her friends to join her to cycle in the city on World Car Free Day. Almost 250 ‘’fancy’’ women participated the city tour with their flower-decorated bicycles.
She has created a facebook event and invited her friends. There were more than 500 women all dressed up for this very special event. In 2014 there were almost 1000 women who met in Konak Square and cycled in the city center.
The cycling route for the event is easy and short
(approx 5 km). 5 participation conditions are:
1- You have to be a woman
2- You have to be fancy
3- You should come with a fancy bicycle
4- Able to cycle max. 10km/h
5- be able to wave your hand while cycling
This event will be organized every year world car free day for awareness purposes.
If women use bicycles, everyone would do the same, because this is a proof that the city is safe for cycling.
