Temporary school street opening
The aim of the School Zone programme is to make traffic around Budapest schools safer, especially during the morning rush hour, to improve air quality and to provide a more friendly environment for parents and children.
School streets can be permanently converted public areas or sections of road closed to traffic for specific periods of time – for example, in the morning or afternoon – depending on the role of the street in the road network and the opportunities available to make the environment safer. A school street not only serves traffic safety, but also creates an opportunity for the community to take back ownership of the area.
The aim of the project is to develop a long-term sustainable solution based on the experiences of the trial period, which the district, the school and the parent community jointly support and actively participate in its daily maintenance.
Heltai Gáspár Elementary School (XIV. district): between September 15th and 26th, a permanent school street will be established on Padlizsán Street for two weeks.
Gregor József Elementary School (XVII. district): between September 8th and 19th, on weekdays between 7:00 and 8:30 in the morning, there will be a school street.

1.) The lower embankment section of Pest between Chain Bridge and Elizabeth Bridge will be opened to pedestrians and cyclists already on Friday, and on the weekend, for Mobility Week, you can stroll and cycle along the extended length between Margaret Bridge and the Whale.
We recommend everyone to cycle to work on the lower embankment of Pest on Friday, or enjoy the panorama and the programs of the bars in the afternoon.

2.) Car-free Weekend
The highlight of the Budapest program series this year is the Car-Free Weekend on September 20–21, when we welcome visitors from Kálvin Square to the Buda bridgehead of the Liberty Bridge, as well as on the Pest Lower Quay. The thousands of visitors will be welcomed by colorful programs promoting environmental awareness and sustainable transportation: they can try out various sustainable means of transportation, nostalgic and modern vehicles, and we will give them a glimpse into the work of public service providers. In addition, we will present the organization of Budapest's transportation and the development of its public spaces through thematic guided tours.

There will be a vehicle exhibition and a visit to driver's cabins, from the oldest trams to the CAFs that will stand in service this September, supplemented by buses and trolleys, and the bus playhouse will also be there. A bike playground is being built on the Belgrád Quay, where one can cycle from the child's track to the goldsprint, and on Sunday you can compete on the roller ski, roller skate and biathlon tracks under the Liberty Bridge.

NGOs will also come, from the rickshaws of Cycling Without Age to environmental organizations to the issues of the disabled and the blind and visually impaired.

The capital and its companies will set up shop on Fővám Square. You can talk to experts about air quality, the development of a new urban logistics system, energy efficiency, environmentally friendly heating methods, renewable energy sources, sustainable food, composting, you can meet nature conservationists, and everyone can vote on the community budget. We will bring a power generator and a smoothie-making bike, and we will also hold a bicycle education program on both days.

At the stands of BKK and Budapest Roads, adults and children will be welcome with transportation programs, and state organizations will also set up booths, from Aktív Magyarország to Volán and some for profit sustainable mobility providers join the programmes too

No one will go home hungry, because there will be the Food Truck Show again this year.
