Sofia (София) organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2012, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
The European mobility week in Sofia is organized under the motto Moving in the right direction. All initiatives aims to provoke citizens to get out of their cars and explore new ways to move through the city – with buss, metro, bicycles, and by walk. A special attention will be given to the children and young people with a lot of educational events for save bicycling in the parks and on the road.

During the week will be presented the campaign of Sofia municipality and the Bulgarian national television – “Stop! Save the children” for more responsible behavior under the wheel especially around the schools and the kinder gardens.

Pedestrianisation

On 31 August 2012 was officially opened the new Sofia metro underground railway line. The new line links the centre of the city with the Lozenets and Nadejda neighbourhoods. The project is part of the Municipality’s plan for Sustainable Urban Mobility.

Car-free day Car-free day

Sofia (София) carries out a Car-free day 2012 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
