implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport. Where possible, at least one of these measures should be a permanent reallocation of road space in favour of walking, cycling or public transport (e.g. road closure, wider pavement, new cycle or bus lane, new traffic calming scheme, lower speed limit).

Organising the «In Town Without My Car!» event, i.e. setting aside one or several areas that are reserved solely for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport for at least one whole day (from at least 1 hour before to 1 hour after normal working hours). «In Town Without My Car!» event should preferably be held on 22 September.

-Creation of a cycle route from the central square next to the municipality towards local schools in the form according to the prototype that exists in other European cities. Towards the main road Anoikodomiseos and Charalambou Evagorou will be done with protection measures for cyclists and the rest route will be indicated with dividing striping lines.

-Improvement of infrastructure (Creation of On street parking at Agiou Athanasiou Str. and Anoikodomiseos, peligan crossing at Kolonakiou Str. and Agiou Athanasiou Str., zebra crossings at Renatou Kartsiou Str., expansion of the coastal walkway / cycle path from Limassol to Agios Athanasios and Germasogia)

The Mayor has signed the Covenant of Mayors, so as to assist in increasing energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources on the territories of the Municipality. By its commitment, supports the European Union 20% CO2 reduction objective to be reached by 2020.

Isle Pact Project: The ISLE-PACT project is committed to developing Local Sustainable Energy Action Plans and a pipeline of bankable projects with the aim of meeting or exceeding the EU sustainability target of reducing CO2 emissions by at least 20% by the year 2020. The project's duration is 34 months, 1 February 2010 – 30 November 2012.

The Municipality has so far made significant progress on Energy and Environment projects, despite the financial difficulties experienced by Cyprus and the European Countries in general. The projects’ results are already visible and welcomed by both the residents and the wider community in the province of Limassol.

Moreover the Municipality, has included in its future plans the erection of photovoltaic covers to the existing Town Hall car parking (production of electricity, reduction of fuel consumption for cooling & damages to vehicles, users’ comfort) the construction of new vehicle routes so as to enhance mobility of citizens, the replacement of old, high energy consuming vehicles with new electric and/or hybrid ones and the improvement of the energy performance of existing Municipal buildings.

Car-free day Car-free day

Agios Athanasios carries out a Car-free day 2013 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
