Sheffield organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2007, taking into account the annual theme.

Sheffield City Council in partnership with local organisations is hosting a whole series of events during European Mobility Week to encourage healthier transport choices. Activities to promote walking and cycling will be running alongside actions to highlight other transport choices that benefit the global and local environment including public transport, car clubs and transport brokerage.

Holly Street in the city centre has been permanently closed to motorised traffic (cycles allowed) as part of the refurbishment of the City Hall/Barkers Pool area. Cycle stands have been installed.

‘North Sheffield Better Buses’ scheme has beeen introduced to encourage a modal shift in use along the main Barnsley Road route into the city centre. Priority infrastructure has been completed and buses using the facilities must be running to certain standards (EURO III).

Launch of Car Share website by Sheffield City Council and Sheffield Homes as part of the Car Share South Yorkshire scheme. Links drivers and passengers together online.

Completion of final section of Inner Relief Road (due to open October/November 2007) with 1190 linear metres of cycle lane, 2 toucan crossings, 1 new cycle stand, 2 bus laybys, 2 bus shelters, 40 linear metres of bus/cycle/taxi-only lane, 3 new pedestrian crossings (signalised) and 9 new pedestrian crossings (un-signalised).
