Daytrip to a beach with the Association for people with disabilities
The daytrip is going to take place in a beach close to Rethymno (Gerani beach), which has an available seatruck, an equipment that helps people with disabilities to enter in the sea.

Rethymno on Wheels-Inform, promote and educate public for the municipal bike sharing and scooter sharing system
Promotion of the public bike sharing system by informing the public that there is a free use up to 3 hours, in which spots are located, how the mobile application operates, how to lock and unlock the sharing bikes etc. All the above aim to encourage more citizens and tourists to use the municipal bike sharing system, so as the scooter system, and consequently to shift their everyday transport modes towards biking and scootering.

Bicycle Training
The city of Rethymno will install a temporary infrastructure to simulate real traffic conditions in order to train people of all ages how to ride bikes. It is planned to provide available e-bikes from the municipal bike share system, other bikes and a wheelchair cargo bike to serve people with disabilities, in order to motivate citizens and tourists to learn how to ride. Additionally, the activity will encourage all citizens to participate with their own bikes in order to learn how to commute with their bikes more safely.

School Visits for Road Safety & Active Mobility
Municipal staff, Vice Mayors, and representatives of the Traffic Police will visit local schools to inform and engage children about the importance and benefits of active ways of transport such as walking and cycling.
Through interactive discussions, the students will learn how to commute safely, understand the basic traffic rules for pedestrians and cyclists, and discover how sustainable mobility contributes to their health and the environment.
At the end of each visit, informative flyers will be distributed to the children, encouraging them to share the message of safe and active mobility with their families and friends.

Educational traffic park
In cooperation with the Traffic Police and the OKA Preveli Club, a large public square will be transformed into an educational traffic park.
The station will include:
• Theoretical training on commuting safety delivered by the Traffic Police.
• Practical training with scooters in a simulated road environment.
• Sports and activity stations promoting safe and active mobility.
The Traffic Police will also provide guidance on the benefits of using helmets, as well as the correct way to wear them, aiming to raise awareness and improve everyday safety habits.

Let’s dance!
The city of Rethymno has organized, in it’s biggest square, an event dedicated to tango dancing. People of all ages are invited to reach the event by using active modes of transport and participate. Participants may enjoy the tango show and the floor will be open for all for a dance.

The Municipality of Rethymno owns an electrical 7-seater vehicle for disable people and organizes a guided tours to the historic old city center. (The number of tours will be determined by the number of participants)

On-Street games
The city of Rethymno has a beautiful coast line near the old port. During the “Day without car” this coastal road will be closed for motorized vehicles and it will be accessible only for bikes and pedestrians. Since the coastal road will be closed, a number of activities will take place, such as basketball games and chess games. The activities aim to encourage citizens and tourists of all ages to enjoy a walk combined with a game of their choice. It will be a great opportunity to bring together citizens and tourists of all ages in order to share stories, play together and enjoy the coast line without cars and noise.

5th Rethymno Night “Run & Walk”
The 5th Rethymno Night Run & Walk was a major highlight of the European Mobility Week, showcasing excellent organization and community spirit. More than 30 dedicated volunteers supported the event, ensuring smooth coordination and a festive atmosphere.
This year’s edition featured:
• Special T-shirts with motivational messages, offered to all participants.
• Professional time-measuring equipment, guaranteeing accurate race results.
• Finisher medals for everyone, celebrating participation and achievement.
The event attracts hundreds of participants from across the island of Crete and other cities of Greece. Families, children, and adults of all ages come together to run, walk, and enjoy the unique night-time experience in the streets of Rethymno.
The 5th Night Run & Walk not only promotes healthy living and active mobility, but also highlightes the city’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable urban events.

Organized Cycling Tour in Rethymno
An exciting cycling tour through the city of Rethymno will take place along a designated route, supported by the ATLAS Club Rethymno Cyclists Association. The event encourages everyone to participate, regardless of age or experience, and provides a great opportunity to learn how to move safely and confidently on the roads.
In the spirit of inclusion, the Municipality of Rethymno will also provide the use of a special adaptive bicycle, ensuring that people with disabilities can join and fully enjoy the cycling experience.
This activity combines sport, fun, and road safety awareness, while promoting the values of sustainable and inclusive mobility in our city.

School streets
The School Streets initiative involves temporarily restricting motorized traffic near school entrances during peak drop-off and pick-up times. This measure immediately transforms the areas, surrounding schools, into pedestrian-friendly zones, enhancing safety and creating a more welcoming environment for students and parents. The Municipality of Rethymno, during the previous school year had implemented successfully a pilot for “Schoolstreets” thus in order to celebrate the day without cars will implement it again!

Since the coastal road will be closed, a number of activities will take place, such as basketball games and chess games. The activities aim to encourage citizens and tourists of all ages to enjoy a walk combined with a game of their choice. It will be a great opportunity to bring together citizens and tourists of all ages in order to share stories, play together and enjoy the coast line without cars and noise.
Additionally, in order to celebrate the World Car-Free Day, on Monday 22nd of September,a School Street initiative will be implemented. This initiative involves temporarily restricting motorized traffic near school entrances during peak drop-off and pick-up times. The measure immediately transforms the areas, surrounding schools, into pedestrian-friendly zones, enhancing safety and creating a more welcoming environment for students and parents.
