Improvement of bicycle facilities (parking, locks, etc.)
Promotion: The installation of the BPARCO Innovative Bicycle Parking at the Faculty of Transport and Communications in Sarajevo is a significant improvement in bicycle facilities. This parking solution, designed to enhance security with U-lock compatibility, encourages safer and more convenient bicycle use in Sarajevo. During European Mobility Week, we promoted its role in supporting sustainable transportation options in an urban area with high pollution levels.
Installation of charging points for e-bikes
Promotion: The mobility island at Otoka Olympic Pool, which includes a charging point for electric bikes, was promoted during European Mobility Week 2024. This infrastructure supports clean mobility and further incentivizes the use of electric bicycles.
Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings, etc.)
Promotion: As part of our campaign to improve sustainable transport and public spaces, the installation of the Bicycle Counter with Totem in the Otoka area enhances the cycling infrastructure and creates a better environment for pedestrians and cyclists. This counter also contributes to the management of mobility and the integration of pedestrian and cycling spaces in the city.
The development of accessible transport services for all
Implementation: The workshop for branding an electric vehicle for children with special needs is a part of our broader effort to create accessible and sustainable transport services. The vehicle, designed for transporting children with disabilities, will enhance mobility options for vulnerable groups, and the project emphasizes both sustainability and inclusivity.
Development of systems and equipment for measuring air quality in public places
Promotion: The installation of the Bicycle Counter with Totem at the Otoka location is not only a tool for counting cyclists but also contributes to monitoring sustainable mobility and its impact on air quality. This initiative ties into broader efforts to improve urban mobility and reduce pollution in Sarajevo, promoted during European Mobility Week.
Elaboration of educational materials
Implementation: The children's workshop held on 22 September to create artwork for branding the electric vehicle for children with special needs also served as an educational platform. The workshop raised awareness about the importance of clean air and sustainable transport, engaging the younger generation in environmental education.
We implemented several permanent measures between EMW 2023 and EMW 2024, all of which were promoted during the 2024 campaign:
BPARCO Innovative Bicycle Parking: This new facility promotes the use of bicycles as a sustainable transport mode by providing secure, U-lock compatible parking, strategically located at the Faculty of Transport and Communications. This initiative encourages both students and the wider community to opt for eco-friendly transport options.
Bicycle Counter with Totem: Located at the Otoka Olympic Pool, this counter is the first of its kind in Sarajevo. It tracks the number of cyclists using the area, promoting cycling as a sustainable transport solution and providing valuable data for future mobility planning. The totem is part of a larger mobility island, which includes charging points for e-bikes and electric vehicles.
Workshop for Branding Electric Vehicles: This workshop, organized on 22 September, allowed children to create artwork that will be used to brand an electric vehicle for transporting children with special needs. The vehicle will support inclusive mobility and is funded by the EU and GIZ, emphasizing Sarajevo’s commitment to clean and accessible transport solutions for all.
