Colchester organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2006, taking into account the annual theme.
All week
Promotion of alternatives to single - occupancy car travel thereby reduring transport's contribution to pollution and climate change principally through:
- events on ITWMC day (see below)
- the LSP's Travel Plan Club in the form of individual pledges to use alternatives on journeys to work
- Colchester-wide publicity using local media, including local radio and their promotions with business and schools.
Permanent measures
Colchester implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.

- Installation of new cycle parking facilities in the area - exact location to be determined through local participation on the day.
Car-free day
Colchester carries out a Car-Free Day 2006 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Hickory Avenue, Greenstead, will be cloased for 8am - 6pm, from Hawthorn Avenue to Gorse Walk.
