London Borough of Islington organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2006, taking into account the annual theme.
All week
The Council will be closing a number of on-street parking bays around Farringdon Station and have invited designers to create new spaces. A tour of the parking bays will be held and the best design will be chosen by public vote. The bays will all have a climate change theme.

London Borough of Islington implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.

The Council will carry out a significant overhaul of pedestrian environment around Farringdon. This will include expansion of footway capacity, pedestrianisation of Cowcross Street, new interchange facilities, and wayfinding boards. These changes will result in a high quality public realm.
Car-free day
London Borough of Islington carries out a Car-Free Day 2006 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
On-street parking bays will be restricted, resulting in much lower parking capacity for cars.
