- 2 Safer Routes to School Schemes at Bankhead and Garscadden Primary Schools. The combined SRtS schemes were developed at each school to support their respective travel plans in encouraging their pupils to walk and cycle to school. The scheme includes 2 new ‘Toucan’ signalised crossings, parking control measures to prevent footway parking and measures to reinforce the 20mph speed limit around the schools at a total cost of £85,000.

- Shared use cycle track on Old Castle Road as part of the White Cart Cycle Route, constructed at a cost of £75,000. Permanent reallocation of road space by widening into the adjacent road and reconstructing the footway to create a shared use cycle track along Old Castle Road. Permanent installation of a Toucan signalised pedestrian and cycle crossing at the junction of Holmlea Road/Old Castle Road.

- 'Polite Cycling' initiative. This initiative was developed at a cost of £5000 with Spokes Cycle Campaign to encourage cyclists to behave safely and with respect to other road users. It sets a ‘polite cycling’ code which asks cyclists to:
 Obey traffic signals – “you are traffic too so stop at red”
 Not to cycle on the footway – “pavements are for pedestrians”
 Be responsible on shared paths – “slow down, ring bell and say thanks when passing”
 After dark – “use front and back lights so you can be seen”
Over 10,000 reflective ‘slap-bands’ will be given to cyclists via cycle shops with every new bicycle sold and other events to encourage cyclists to “Bike Polite”
