Dublin City Council implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.

New or improved bicycle facilities

Installation of the Grand Canal Premium Cycle Route and S to S Docklands Route. The Grand Canal Route will involve the permanent removal of approx. 249 on-street pay and display car parking spaces. The Scheme is due to be completed by Spring 2011.
Expansion of the dublinbikes scheme with 4 new bicycle stations, an increase in the fleet by 22% and increased bicycle parking capacity at a large number of existing bicycle stations.
For late 2010, proposed 30km/h zone outside 3 schools during school times/terms.
New 'Buzy Streets' initiative launched in May 2010 for school children aged 5 to 8 and their parents, delivered in school.

Car-free day Car-free day

Dublin City Council carries out a Car-Free Day 2010 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
A zone comprising streets between Grafton Street and South Great Georges Street will be pedestrianised on In Town without my Car Day on 22nd September, 2010.
