Cesena organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2011, taking into account the annual theme.

The Municipality of Cesena is active in the implementation of alternative mobility through the adhesion to the European Mobility week 2011 and all the different measures on sustainable mobility implemented in this year.

Cesena implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.

New or improved bicycle facilities
Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
Traffic calming and access control scheme
Speed reduction programmes in zones near schools
Mobility management
Adoption of school travel plans
Launch of awareness-raising campaigns

Several measures were adopted to implement sustainable mobility and higher quality of air and life. Here a brief description of the measures undertaken by the Municipality:

- park and ride: two different parkings connected to the city senter by a free bus service every 10 minutes

- new bike lanes to connect different areas of the city and allow citizens to reach as much part of the city as possible

- statistical analysis of car accidents to have a screenshoot of critical situations in some city areas

- national meeting on safe mobility with the italian bikers federation

- "ultimo chilometro": a participating process involving citizens to design the city centre from the mobility and urban point of view, increasing traffic restricted areas, bike lanes, pedestrian areas, reorganizing the parking system and public local transport

- "bollino rosa": a pink ticket that allows pregnant women to park for free in the city centre

Car-free day Car-free day

Cesena carries out a Car-Free Day 2011 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
The Municipality of Cesena is working for a free of car city centre, without compromising commercial activities and retailers or city centre residents. The main squares of the city are now free of car traffic such as all the area sourrounding these squares and the historical part of the city (the Malatestian Library, the Malatestian Castle, the Masini Fountain, the Bonci theatre are reacheable only by sustainable means of transport).
