Budapest organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2011, taking into account the annual theme.

Sept.16.The Day of Public Transport - Zigzag Race around the Downtown, to highlight the advantages of public transport againts of private car use.

Sept17-18. Car-free Weekend on the Andrassy Avenue. Colorful sport, cultural events: TeARTrum Open-air season opener festival of 36 theatres. Formule ENERGIA 2.0 Race of clean vehicles. - GreenTEX exhibition of environfriendly products and service providers. - A huge promenade by closing the main roads of the city from Buda-side to the City Park, with 3 connecting events: Bridge of Sciences (on the Lanchid, Chain Bridge), Care-free Andrassy Corso and National Galopp (a horse-race on the Heroe's sqare)

Sept.19. Parking Day. Starts with a NGO action, civil activists occupie a parkplace, covering it by green grass and garden forniture; the activists suggest drivers to use the underground garages instead of occupation of streets. The garages offer 50% reduced fees for drivers during the EMW.

Sept.20. 'Travel Eco-Smart - alternative mobility'. A conference on the key issues of the transportation in Budapest. A special workshop on BuBi, the citybike rental system, coming soon in Budapest. The venue will be the Budapest University of Technology.

Sept.21. The Day of Pedestrianised Streets. The site of the event is Lovohaz street, a real success story of pedestrianisation. Performances of independent theatres on and around the stage in the street. A press breakfast and discussion about the reconstruction and re-allocation of road of the biggest place of Buda side (Szell Kalman ter). The site of the breakfast is the terrace of a museum-caffé in Lovohaz street, where a tango milonga will be held in the evening in the street.

Sept.22. European Car-free Day. The Alkotmany street in front of Parliament will be closed for traffic an open for pedestrian and bikers. The Members of Parliament and Government will be invited to walk and bike here. The Parliament will set up a bike-rental here and will be an origin of bike-tours in the city. The ceremony of undersigning of the EU supporting treatment of BuBi city bike will be held in the street. This will be origin of Critical Mas bikers demonstration too at the end of the day.

Car-free day Car-free day

Budapest carries out a Car-Free Day 2011 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
A huge, 4.5 km long pedestrian zone wil be formed by connecting the streets of the E-W axle of Pest side (Lanchid - Jozsef A. street - Andrassy Avenue - Hosok tere - Varosliget)
