Activities within the week Activities within the week

canale monterano organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2012, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
During the week the Municipality will promote a series of event regarding alternative and sustainable mobility to increase the citizens awareness regarding this theme.
During the whole week (from 16 to 22 September) some initiatives will be every day active:
o The Municipality of Rome will guarantee, using the new established communication platform inside the Mobility Agency, the press and media coverage on the Event, informing and raising awareness on citizens, arranging specific focus on each initiative. In addition, the websites of the Mobility Agency and of the municipality will promote the European Sustainable Mobility Week and the Campaign “Do the right mix”.
o CAR-SHARING: during the and in agreement with all other car-sharing scheme managers in Italian Cities, the annual contract to the Service will be discounted by 50% to each newcomer (person, family, company)
o ATAC Museum Pole: Opening of a photographic show with images from ATAC historical archive and free entrance for the week to the Museum Pole and to the ATAC railway park
o EATALY: Discount of 10% for all running iniziative to the annual METREBUS car-holders; show of electrical vehicle and recharging system near the structure.

Further info
 Renewal of the public transport fleet. 160 new buses EURO 5 from Rome TPL in 2011 and a similar amount for 2012 and 2013. Continuation of the program of fleet renewal ATAC with the largest fleet of electric buses in Europe at the service of the city centre.
 Extension of the metro line B1 with the opening of three stations in June 2012, with the simultaneous revision of surface lines, and the Ionio station for 2013. Continuing work on the C line with opening to traffic Pantano - Centocelle within 2013, finalizing the restructuring of Termini station by 2012;
 Mobility corridors: in 2012 is continuing the construction work of the Public Transport corridor Eur / Tor de 'Cenci and Eur Laurentina/ Tor Pagnotta;
 Activation of new mobility services for sustainable mobility: in 2012 established new Home to Work Trip Plans (HWTP), publication of the bid to cover the entire car sharing city area with at least 300 vehicles and diffusion of electric vehicles with strengthening and extension of the charging network for electric vehicles with additional 150 charging points;
 Development of the European project of cooperation GREEN EMOTION, supporting the electric mobility and the last mile mobility concept, of the European project STADIUM cooperation for the development of alternative mobility in large sport events, finalisation of the European project CIVITAS CATALIST, whose aim was to promote the EU CIVITAS approach to sustainable mobility and soft modes;
 Extension of Limited Traffic Zones and pedestrian areas for the “Pedestrian old town project” (about 5 sq km) consisting of several phases of implementation: the first, covering the so-called Tridente, is under implementation and in 2012 the pedestrian area of S. Silvestro square was opened.
 Urban renovation in mobility with a widespread action to implement Detailed Plans for Urban Mobility (DPUM) in each city district where already 60 projects on the main road network and local were completed in the past. In 2012 were contracted new projects and further DPUM approved.
 Structural improvement and tuning of the primary road network (about 300 km) and functional reorganization of the axes with local intervention and technological upgrading of traffic lights with new LED lights and new devices for 193 installations;
 City Council approved new cycling plan (Piano Quadro della Ciclabilità)that includes the construction of new bike lanes in the city.
 Increase intermodal way of transportation with the possibility of carriaging bicycles on public transport in some days
 Start of the activities of the Environmental and Climate Change Observatory of Roma Capitale and adoption of the Action Plan on Sustainable Energy of Roma Capitale;
 Adoption of the new city plan for the distribution of goods, including regulations to promote vehicles with low or zero emission, start of the incentive plan for fleet renewal and start of the pilot project experimenting with zero-emission vehicles for the delivery of goods in city-centre, in collaboration with Ministry of Environment and main Italian industrial association
 Completion of new roads and connections opened in 2012, the new Tiburtina subway on the East ring road and new rail-riding Ostiense.
 Start of the communication platform for integrated mobility in Rome Mobility Services and of the website www.muovi.roma.it which is the city mobile information portal.

Car-free day Car-free day

canale monterano carries out a Car-Free Day 2012 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
The event “In town without my car” will be organised during the days Saturday and Sunday 22-23rd September: this last day, even if out of the Sustainable mobility week, will prmit the involvement of relaxed “Sunday” people.
This year, the Municipality is trying to diffuse the concept of sustainable mobility across the city. Every city districts was involved in the definition process of this event activities and the closed areas will be in each Rome Districts to raise awareness for the “in town without my car” day. In particular:
 The Famous street of the city “via dei Fori Imperiali” will be closed to the traffic from cars and any other vehicles. It's the old Emperor street, starting from Colosseo to Piazza Venezia – the old heart of the city where similar event were held in the past. An expo of electrical vehicles and presentation of mobility solutions from Municipal and private companies will be organized. More, during the days, the Municipal companies involved in mobility will arrange activities as well as they will involve citizens in demonstrating the feasibility of alternative mobility in everyday life.
 A specific square or main road will be closed in 12 Municipalities of Roma Capitale (specifically III- IV - V - VI - VII - VIII - X - XI - XII - XIII - XVII – XIX districts) with the organization of space exhibition / events organized by the municipalities themselves and in cooperation with Enel, Route Per Aria association and BiciRoma.
 Gianicolo area: Exhibition of electric vehicles and hybrid service test drive organized by Green Zone – Ruote Per Aria Association and ENEL.
