Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
We will be closing a collection of streets in the City Centre (Schoolhill, Belmont Street and Little Belmont Street) to traffic in order to host a family fun day on Sunday 25th September. The purpose of this is twofold:
1. To allow members of the public to experience a normally busy street in a different way, without the noise and distraction of motor vehicles, and to appreciate how public spaces can be used differently in the City; and
2. To encourage members of the public to be more physically active and to consider adopting more sustainable travel choices.
Accordingly, the event will include both family-friendly attractions on-street (street games, inflatables, circus skills, face painting, etc.) and a range of information stalls and exhibits where people can find out more about keeping active and travelling more sustainably. Local walking and cycling groups, bus, rail and car club operators, and public sector bodies representing health, transport and air quality are therefore expected to attend.
