Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Over a dozen streets in Hackney will be transformed into 'Play Streets' on Saturday 22 September as part of worldwide Car-Free Day celebrations.
'Play Streets', which have been around in Hackney since 2012, give children a chance to reclaim their streets from traffic and take part in fun and games.
The 2018 Car-Free Day celebrations will see many of Hackney's established 'Play Streets' simultaneously close their streets to traffic for the event.
Hackney Play Association, who coordinates 'Play Streets' in Hackney, is assisting residents to apply for, set up and run 'Play Streets'. Hackney Council is providing funding for special Car-Free Day Play Packs (containing hula hoops, skipping rope and much more) which will provided to every Play Street participating in this year's Car-Free Day celebrations.
