Detailed description (English): TransportLAB seeks solutions for Mobility issues through online Talking Traffic & Logistics Challenge
Wednesday 18 October will be the kick-off date for the Talking Traffic & Logistics challenge, during the Captains dinner held at the MobilityRAI in Amsterdam. The purpose of this challenge is to engage both students and professionals to come up with ideas on how to shorten the logistics chains and how to make them more efficient, through smart use of data. This year, the focus of the competition will lie on mobility issues, among which urban- and sustainable distribution, combined with traffic- and logistical data. As of today, the challenge can be accessed online on the community website of Dutch Mobility Innovations.
The mobility issues that The Netherlands faces today is increasingly complex and challenging. To stimulate the development of smart, innovative and creative solutions for these issues, TransportLAB, RAI Vereniging, TIP Trailer Services, TLN (Transport en Logistiek Nederland), NHTV, overheid- en onderwijspartners join forces and launch the Talking Traffic & Logistics Challenge.
The theme of the Challenge is: ‘Talking Traffic & Logistics’. The Challenge is about how we can make sure The Netherlands remains accessible and, at the same time, meet the growing demand for same-day-delivery. These issues can only be overcome through collaboration in a chain. Think about open data sources and sharing of information that will solve mobility issues in more effective and efficient ways.
Kick-off
The MobilityRAI (19-21 October) is a conference where transport and logistic professionals from all over the Netherlands unite, therefore this event is an unique opportunity for the kick-off of this challenge. The challenge will be started by three student teams from NHTV Breda who will carry out research during the MobilityRAI.
Online challenge ‘Talking Traffic & Logistics’
After the MobilityRAI, the online MobilityRAI challenge ‘Talking Traffic & Logistics’ will go live. This online challenge will run from Wednesday 1 November until Wednesday 20 December.
Both companies (and start-ups) as well as student teams will be able to participate. During the MobilityRAI a team will be present to share information about the challenge. On the brand-new community site Dutch Mobility Innovations you can, as of now, already find four challenges online:
1. Identification System Logistics Decoupling Points
2. Logistic Municipal Data
3. Sustainable Urban Distribution
4. Application OpenTripModel (open source data model).
Signing up is already possible.
The top three submissions of the online challenge will be invited to present their findings during the final event happening in the middle of January 2018. After that, an independent and professional jury will announce a winner. What will be assessed by the jurors are: the impact on logistics, sustainability, and applicability. The winner will be helped to further develop his / her idea.

Kick-off
Online challenge ‘Talking Traffic & Logistics’
1. Identificatiesysteem Logistieke Ontkoppel Punten
2. Logistieke Gemeentelijke Data
3. Duurzame stedelijke distributie
4. Toepassing OpenTripModel (open source datamodel).
