Participation 2009

The participant is committed to:

Organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme.
Actions relative to the theme:
For the fifth year, Gävle is staging the European Mobility Week between the 16th to the 22nd of September 2009.
Several activities are planned concerning this year’s theme” Improving City Climates”. The goal will be both motivating and inspiring.
This goal will be attained by citizen contact, children’s activities, presentations, a focal day in Slottstorget, inaugurations of several permanent measures, marketing and media information.

A Project group made up of representatives from the municipality of Gävle and collaboration partners have been planning the European Mobility Week since March 2009. Eventful programmes for a broad target group are offered to the citizens of Gävle during the European Mobility Week. Several of us are working with the European Mobility Week and we can see great value in this collaboration, since the relationships made during this project facilitate the long-term goal of achieving a sustainable traffic development in Gävle

Needs It is important that we invest in marketing in order to create a concept that will become self-sufficient in time. It is also important that we think in the long-term and see the European Mobility Week as a recurring week of activities in the future.

Goal We want to make the citizens of Gävle more aware of alternative modes of transportation, we want to increase the awareness and knowledge about traffic safety, traffic environment and the consequences on the environment made by car traffic.

Target Group Citizens of Gävle – large focus on children and youth and their parents.

Message Use alternative modes of transport, such as walking, bicycling or taking the bus. Use a helmet when you bicycle. Leave the car at home on the day “In town without my car”.
Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
