Animal Magic Falconry Display

Thursday, 17th September 2009 from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm, Palace Grounds, Tuam.

The Council will host a Falconry Display in the Palace Grounds (adjacent to the Leisure Centre) on Thursday, 17th September 2009 from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. The falconry display and workshops on birds of prey will be presented by Animal Magic and are intended as an enjoyable and educational experience.

The aim of the event is to highlight the impact of air pollution and climate change on our environment and the habitat of our wildlife and the positive impact even small changes in travel behaviour can make to reduce the impact of climate change and air pollution.

'Living Streets 2009'

A Sustainable Mobility Initiative by Galway County Council to mark European Mobility Week 2009.

This initiative is aimed at giving recognition to those actively promoting sustainable mobility through local events, activities and initiatives to be held during European Mobility Week 2009 (16th – 22nd September 2009). A range of prizes shall be awarded including a special category prize for schools and an overall prize.

R341 Clifden Cycle Lane:
The development of a cycle lane on the R341 Clifden – Ballyconneely Road extending from the town in the direction of Clifden Community College and serving the grounds of the local rugby club.

The project is located on a major tourist route linking Clifden with Ballyconneely and provides a viewing area over Clifden Bay. This route has benefited from substantial investment in recent years under the Specific Improvement Grant Scheme for Regional and Local Roads and the provision of the cycle lane shall provide significant additional benefits for students, local residents and tourists.

This project is being part-financed by the Department of Transport and Smarter Travel.

Draft Road Traffic (Special Speed Limits) County Galway Bye-Laws 2009

Public consultation period (30 days) in relation to Draft Bye-Laws to intrduced special speed limits in the County addressing priority locations in the vicinity of towns and villages.

Access Measures:

Delivery of a range of measures to address access issues as identified in access audits undertaken by the Council in major towns and populations centres in the County.

Car-free day Car-free day

County Galway carries out a Car-free day 2009 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
