Activities within the week Activities within the week

Limassol (Λεμεσός) organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2014, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
The actions related to the mobility week are:

1) Presentations on primary schools and information materials in order to create awareness about the `Our Streets, our Choice' slogan and the importance of the sustainable development of the city. In addition, to create awareness and influence the behavior of daily choices in order to improve the quality of life of citizens and the importance of urban land use. Moreover, the Limassol Mobility week presentations will encourage children to be more engaged and creative and trigger them to imagine the city that they would like to leave in and the importance of urban land use.

2) Handover Ceremony of the Multi-operational regenerated seaside Park which has been extended with new leisure centers such as cafeterias, theaters, skating sides, new cycling roads, new pedestrian sides, new access for disable citizens and new trees planted in order to boost the green of the park and the city.

3) Cycling and inline skating tours in Limassol city. In addition, most of the municipal employees they will be using the bicycle for a week. Also, the Mayor of Limassol during the mobility week will be traveling around the city with a sponsored Hybrid vehicle.

4) The mayor of Limassol will make a speech to the media about the Mobility week and the importance that has for the society and the improvement of their quality of life and the effective urban land use of Limassol city on its maximum potential (use your city wisely).

5) Atmospheric Pollutants Measurements from the Environmental Health Department of CUT university in Limassol and distribution of information materials

6) Promotion of the Municipal Market and free distribution of free fresh fruit smoothies and juices from local producers in order to promote the healthy lifestyle and the improvement of quality of life of citizens. The fruit juices will be offered to the citizens after the big city cycling tour and after the “Treasure Hund” game in the city.

7) Walking through the Garillis River path in order to create awareness of existence of the 6 km walking path at the Garillis River across Limassol Center. The walking path includes parks, theater, bridges, leisure places, cycling roads ,pedestrian roads, gym city parks for adults and it will be completely finished until the end of this year. The path connects the centre of the city with the seaside and is a path only for pedestrians and cyclists no cars are allowed.

8) Drawing of a big bicycle sign in the University square that would create awareness and would remind University students to travel around the University city center with the bicycle in order to reduce the traffic congestion in the city center.

9) “In Town Without My Car” Road Closure for cars of Anexartisias street. Only pedestrians, cyclists and public transport allowed.

The permanent measures implemented this year are:

1)The walking path through the Garillis Park that includes parks, theater, bridges, leisure places, cycling roads ,pedestrian roads, gym city parks for adults.
2)Regeneration of the Sea Side walking path 1 km.

Car-free day Car-free day

Limassol (Λεμεσός) carries out a Car-free day 2014 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
