VeloFriday – Pedal for Health and Urban Mobility

VeloFriday is a project dedicated to promoting cycling as an accessible, eco-friendly, and healthy means of transportation in Ungheni municipality. Every Friday, at 4:00 PM, amateur and professional cyclists alike gather in front of Ungheni City Hall to ride together on a predefined route that includes tourist attractions and picturesque spots around the city.

The main goals of the initiative are to highlight:
A healthy lifestyle – through regular physical activity and movement;
Sustainable urban mobility – reducing pollution and encouraging alternative transport;
Discovering local heritage – by visiting various tourist attractions in Ungheni by bike;

Community – through the involvement of public institutions, schools, organizations, and citizens in the weekly rides.
The project is initiated by Ungheni City Hall in partnership with the Ungheni Tourist Information Center.

Ungheni implements, planned or promotes one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.

New or improved bicycle facilities
Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc) implemented
Develop public bicycle hiring and sharing systems implemented
Improvement of bicycle facilities (parking, locks etc) implemented
Installation of charging points for e-bikes implemented
Launch of free-floating bike-sharing schemes planned
Pedestrianisation
Create or enlarge pedestrian streets implemented
Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc) implemented
Extension or creation of new greenways implemented
Traffic calming and access control scheme

Car-free day Car-free day

Ungheni carries out a Car-free day and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
