Press conference to present the "Piedibus" and "Fuoriscuola" services
llustration of the project "Fuoriscuola – La scuola va in Città con ATB (Out of School – School Goes to Town with ATB)" aimed at promoting the use of Local Public Transport with the following objectives:
• raising awareness of its many advantages (safety, savings, socialising, health and physical activity);
• educating pupils about sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility;
• developing respect for good rules of civil behaviour and the correct use of public transport from an early age;
• teaching care and respect for public property.
The project allows primary school pupils in the municipality of Bergamo to travel free of charge on buses, funiculars and trams in Bergamo, limited to the urban network.
Each school complex is entitled to two “Fuoriscuola” cards and two “chip on paper” cards containing between 12 and 30 journeys, for a total of up to 620 journeys for all schools.

The event is also an opportunity to present the evolution of the municipal “Piedibus” service and the map of the individual lines currently in operation.
The “Piedibus” is a safe, environmentally friendly and fun way to travel between home and school. It is a walking bus consisting of a small group of children accompanied by two adult volunteers: a “driver” at the front and a “conductor” at the back.
Like a real bus service, it departs from a terminus and, following a set route, picks up passengers at designated ‘stops’ along the way, adhering to a fixed timetable. The service actively contributes to improving quality of life and is an opportunity for children to experience independence, develop self-esteem and prevent obesity. Promoting walking to school is a way of trying to make the area more liveable, less polluted and less dangerous.
Organised by the Department for Children's Services, Education and Schools, Youth Policies, Timetables and Schedules, Equal Opportunities, Education for Legality, Interculturalism and Peace, the Department for Mobility Policies and Development of the Local Public Transport Network of the Municipality of Bergamo and the ATB company.

Press conference to present the “Bici in Comune” project
"Bici in Comune" is an initiative aimed at financing measures to promote cycling and cycle tourism, promoted by the Ministry for Sport and Youth, with the support of the Department for Sport, through Sport e Salute S.p.A. and the National Association of Italian Municipalities (ANCI), with the aim of promoting cycling mobility, encouraging the use of bicycles as a daily and sustainable means of transport and as a tool for a healthy and active lifestyle, as well as promoting cycle tourism as a rapidly growing sector that can bring economic and social development to local communities. The event is an opportunity to present the municipal project called “A gentle push in the Bergamo area - The relaunch of sustainable mobility by pedalling”, a project divided into the following main actions:
• development of gamification initiatives aimed at promoting the use of bicycles as a means of transport and encouraging a change in travel habits for journeys between home and school, home and work, and home and sports facilities; the initiative, structured around urban gaming and cycle tourism, has been extended to the neighbouring areas of Seriate and Torre Boldone with the aim of creating synergies between municipal administrations, broadening the scope of these initiatives and developing mutual collaboration in promoting a cycling culture;
• project to enhance the bike-sharing service in the Municipality of Bergamo; starting from an analysis of the current state of the service, ATB Mobilità, in collaboration with nextbike, will present a project to build a new station to be located near the University of Bergamo, in the Piazza Sant'Agostino area, with the aim of facilitating travel from the city centre to the Upper Town and vice versa through the introduction of electric vehicles capable of easily overcoming the difference in height, helping to reduce traffic congestion in the city;
• development of specific cycling events aimed at raising public awareness of the key role that bicycles can play in the sustainable cities of the future, for the health of people and the planet, promoting behavioural change in favour of clean and smart transport solutions.
In particular, the following initiatives will be presented:
o launch of the "Bike to work day" event scheduled for the morning of Friday 19 September 2025;
o launch of the Instagram contest with photographs related to bicycle use, which will be published on the institutional Instagram profile. All photographs with the project hashtag will be evaluated by a technical jury and then submitted to a public vote via a simple “like”.
The three photographs that receive the most likes will be the winning photographs, which will be awarded prizes during the project's final event;
o "Cycling Without Age", an initiative first promoted in Denmark in 2012, proposed in Bergamo with the aim of allowing elderly people in Bergamo's nursing homes to travel around the city by bicycle, but without pedalling, sitting comfortably on cargo bikes driven by family members or young volunteers. The initiative involves the use of special bikes, transport bikes that can seat two elderly people, equipped with a canopy to protect passengers from the sun and wind, with electric pedal assistance and also equipped with a reverse gear system.
This will give rise to an intergenerational activity that will enable sharing and dialogue between generations, offering elderly people in nursing homes the opportunity to remain an active part of the local community.
Organised by the Department for Mobility Policies and Local Public Transport Network Development and the Department for Social Policies, Longevity, Health and Sport of the Municipality of Bergamo, with the participation of representatives from the municipalities of Seriate and Torre Boldone, ANCI, Sport e Salute S.p.A., ATB Mobilità S.p.A., FB Innovation S.r.l.s. and nextbike GmbH, as well as the FIAB Pedalopolis Bergamo Association.

“New shelters for local public transport: modern structures to make urban spaces more accessible and improve services for citizens”
Bus shelters are the first point of contact between citizens and local public transport and represent a service that belongs to the community.
ATB, together with the Municipality of Bergamo, presents the project for new bus shelters that will be added to the 116 already present in the city.
The aim is to improve the quality of service for passengers, with greater comfort, accessibility for all and modern facilities that contribute to making the urban space even more welcoming and usable.
Well-positioned and recognisable bus shelters, capable of making waiting more pleasant and strengthening the identity of public transport as a service close to the people.
Organised by ATB Mobilità S.p.A., with the participation of the Mayor and the Councillor for Mobility Policies and Development of the Local Public Transport Network of the Municipality of Bergamo.

“Bike to work day – The cyclist's breakfast”
On the occasion of European Mobility Week, "Bike to Work Day" returns, an initiative that FIAB is relaunching in Italy with the aim of encouraging active mobility by involving an increasing number of people, organisations, associations and, above all, companies that can play a strategic role in promoting the use of bicycles.
As part of this initiative, the Municipality and Province of Bergamo intend to reward virtuous employees who decide to cycle to work. All employees who arrive on the morning of Friday 19 September 2025, between 7.30am and 9.30 am, in the courtyard of the Provincial Government building in Bergamo, at Via T. “Millegradini 2025” event
A cultural, tourist, amateur and competitive walk, which also includes a social route called "Zerogradini", conceived by the Oratorio del Seminarino and the Unione Ex Alunni del Seminarino della Parrocchia della Cattedrale di Bergamo, organised by ASD Steel Triathlon in collaboration with C.S.I. di Bergamo, Runners Bergamo, Senzacca community work, and "L'Eco di Bergamo". The aim of the event is to revitalise the ancient pedestrian access routes to the Upper Town and to raise awareness of the city's monuments and main cultural institutions, encouraging participants to walk through and visit them. The principle adopted by the organisers in their relationship with the various institutions can be summarised as follows: "Millegradini brings you visitors, you show them who you are and what you do’". Alongside the tourist and amateur walk, there is a competitive race similar to a mountain run which, although held in the city, has attracted a growing number of participating athletes. In 2014, the "Zerogradini" was added.
The event is divided into two days: Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September.

Saturday, 20/09/2025
On Saturday, 20 September 2025, the event will take place without a predefined route, so that participants can reach the places to visit from different starting points according to their own itineraries and schedules. On Saturday afternoon, competitive sports competitions will also take place in order to help spread out the crowds at the various points of interest, which often become overcrowded as participation grows, by directing the participation of athletes' companions and relatives to Saturday. The competitions will start from Piazza G. Matteotti, on the Donizetti Theatre side.

Sunday 21/09/2025
On Sunday 21 September 2025, the traditional group walks will take place, starting from the side road of Viale Papa Giovanni in front of the headquarters of “L'eco di Bergamo”.
On the same day, the “Zerogradini” event will also take place, involving the participation of numerous organisations, associations and spontaneous groups who will be at the service of the event for that day, with the aim of presenting their projects with stations along the routes and supporting a service that offers the opportunity to participate in the “Millegradini” event even to people with mobility difficulties: people with disabilities or invalidity, elderly people, families with children.
For details about the event, please visit:
https://www.ecodibergamo.it/stories/eppen/extra/appuntamenti/millegradini-2025-o_3008762_11/

As part of the ‘Cuori Olimpici’ (Olympic Hearts) project, the event will include an institutional ceremony on Sunday 21 September, starting at 3 pm at the Chiostro del Seminarino, with the formal presentation of the ‘Cuore Olimpico’ in the presence of representatives of the Lombardy Region, the coordinators of the ‘Millegradini 2025’ event and representatives of the Municipality of Bergamo.

Special opening of the ATB Museum
The Museum is a place dedicated to the city where visitors can take an exciting journey through the history of ATB and Bergamo. It is aimed particularly at primary and secondary school pupils (first and second level) as a tool for educating them about sustainable mobility.
The museum's layout creates an educational and training path through which visitors can discover the history of ATB and local public transport, including through the use of the latest interactive multimedia video technologies. The museum layout includes panels describing the main stages in the history of public transport, display cases containing memorabilia and work tools from the past, and two “historic” funicular railway carriages, which have been restored and refurbished. The tour ends with a visit to the room displaying plastic models and railway models managed by the Orobico Model Railway Group: a unique event for all enthusiasts of model making and railway culture. In particular, there is a room in which the Model Railway Association has reproduced the two historic railways of the Seriana Valley and the Brembana Valley. The two lines, which are fully functional, offer a historical overview from Bergamo Station to the two Bergamo valleys.

Curated by the ATB Group in collaboration with GFO Bergamo - Orobico Model Railway Group.

New measures to redevelop public spaces and improve road safety: "Towards Bergamo Città 30"
23 September – Tuesday
Event time: from 10:30 to 12:30
Event location: Sala Ferruccio Galmozzi - Palazzo Via T. Tasso n. 4 - Bergamo

Press conference to present the new project to expand the city's 30 km/h zones, with the aim of covering 87% of urban roads, exceeding the 77% envisaged by the Urban Sustainable Mobility Plan (PUMS).
The Municipal Administration has always considered the creation of a “30 City” as a great ally of cycling, an indispensable tool for guaranteeing everyone the fundamental right to freedom of movement enshrined in the Constitution.
Active mobility is, in fact, the basis of planning to meet the current mobility needs of all people.
The event is also an opportunity to present a number of projects for the implementation of devices aimed at improving road safety in the city, including:
• Mobile planters installed to protect certain areas of the city, with a particular focus on the Via Fornoni project.
• Berlin cushions, devices installed on the asphalt to slow down traffic without causing any inconvenience to buses, emergency vehicles and two-wheeled vehicles (cyclists and motorcyclists). This makes them particularly suitable for use in 30 km/h zones;
• speed-check devices (illuminated panels), indicators showing when the 30 km/h limit has been exceeded, designed to raise awareness among drivers and encourage them to comply with speed limits;
• noise-check devices (anti-noise displays), indicators equipped with sound level meters and illuminated panels that communicate the number of decibels the vehicle is producing with the aim of raising drivers' awareness of noise pollution;
• implementation of Variable Message Signs (VMS), important devices capable of providing travellers with real-time information on traffic events, traffic disruptions, roadworks, journey times, closure forecasts and weather conditions, diverting traffic and reducing congestion and waiting times, thereby improving the safety and efficiency of the road network.

Organised by the Department for Mobility Policies and Local Public Transport Network Development of the Municipality of Bergamo and ATB Mobilità S.p.A., with the Mayor in attendance.
