Our streets, our choice instead, will be the starting point for some initiatives that will continue during the whole year (i.e. pedibus), and activities that can be repeated during the next spring (i.e. ecological cycling). Starting from January 2013, the Municipality of Bitonto will implementing a lot of measures which contribute to the realisation of intermodal transport systems (e.g. park & ride), where you can leave your private car for an eco-friendly means of transport. During the week some of these measures will be inaugurated, while others, in progress, will be presented with the some positive effects achieved – the monitoring has been made through different methods – . These measures are:
- Restricted traffic streets: the principal streets of the city, Corso Vittorio Emanuele (where the City Hall is located)/ via Repubblica/via Verdi are closed from April to 15th of June and from 6th of September to 31st of October , from Saturday to Sunday from 6pm to 10pm and from 15th of June to 5th of September from 7pm to 10pm to promote pedestrian walking;
- new bus routes: the Municipal Police in according to the local Agency of Road Transport (Ferrotramviaria S.p.A.) has individuated new stops far from centre. This decentralization helps to reduce traffic and smog in the city centre. At the same time, it has been projected a pedestrian and cycle track that will link the centre to suburbs, allowing cyclists to ride safe. On May they will be distributed little brochure with timetable and bus route The works for pedestrian and cycle track will start during the European Mobility Week.
- new traffic calming scheme and lower speed limit: from May to September 2013 the Municipality of Bitonto has realized three traffic circles and two channelled crosses in zones with a high percentage of car crashes. A new traffic circle, near hospital, will be completed on May
