Intervention PARK NOT PARKing
The Sesvete Cultural Center, in cooperation with the Prigorje Museum and the Sesvete District Council, is organizing a day-long activity PARK NOT PARKing, which erases the boundary between the static infrastructure of cars and the dynamic needs of pedestrians. By occupying a space intended for parked vehicles, the project transforms it into an active public space – a place for movement, encounters, and socializing.

The focus is on the human in motion: walking, lingering, observing, and spontaneous connections become the new rules of use. This temporary architecture is not just a physical transformation but a clear invitation to a different kind of urbanism – one that favors accessibility, equality, and life beyond the automobile.

Exhibition "Graffiti in Green"
The Sesvete Cultural Center is organizing the exhibition Graffiti in Green, created through the Children's Art Competition.

The aim is to encourage children to use their imagination to visually create messages based on their own experiences and perceptions related to graffiti as a medium, through which they can actively advocate for the preservation of nature. The exhibition also seeks to publicly highlight the importance of environmental protection, as well as the value of children’s perspectives and artistic creativity.

The graffiti will be presented on canvas, and the exhibition is planned to be displayed in an open public space, such as a forest or park. These graffiti pieces are mobile and allow for changes in spatial concepts, which is also our intention for the further development of the project and future collaborations.

Sljeme Meat Processing Complex – Industrial Heritage Walk
As part of European Mobility Week 2025, the Prigorje Museum is organizing a walk for all citizens. The walk begins in the historic center of Sesvete, and after a brief introduction, participants will head towards the nearby bus terminal, which offers a view of Sesvete’s oldest factory – Sljeme.

The oldest factory building, constructed in 1898/99 based on a design by architect Janko Holjac, still stands out among the remnants of the industrial complex. Entering the complex, the story of the development of the meat processing industry and the urbanization of Sesvete during the 20th century begins, when Sljeme became a key player in transforming the settlement into a Zagreb suburb. Today, only abandoned buildings remain of the former industrial giant, and on one of them stands the rusted statue of Jankić – a boy in traditional Prigorje attire, a symbol of Sljeme and a reminder of a bygone era. This figure, located on top of the cold storage facility, marks the highest point of the walk and recalls the factory’s former economic significance.

The walk lasts approximately two hours and is dedicated to the local industrial heritage.

Storytime and Educational-Art Workshop "A City for Everyone"
The S. S. Kranjčević Library will organize the storytime and educational-art workshop "A City for Everyone" on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 10:00 AM. This event is intended for children in the lower grades of primary school. During the event, children will listen to the picture book "Professor Faust’s Beginner Cyclist" and learn all about traffic safety and caution, the parts of a bicycle, and the history of transportation development.

After the story, there will be a discussion about a city accessible to everyone. Children will share how they imagine their "ideal city," where everyone has access to safe transportation, mobility is sustainable and available, and traffic does not pollute the environment. They will then transform their ideas into drawings, which will be displayed in the Children’s Department of the library.

In Roman Footsteps from Sesvete to Jelkovec
Almost 2,000 years ago, Sesvete had a road as important as today’s highways. It was built by the Romans to allow their army to move more quickly and easily between the cities of Poetovio (Ptuj) and Siscia (Sisak). The Prigorje Museum will guide participants on a walk through the area where the Roman road once stretched, leading to Jelkovec, where an impressive replica of a Roman milestone awaits—engraved with the name of the Roman emperor Maximinus Thrax!

The walk lasts about two hours and is dedicated to Roman heritage and its place within contemporary urban planning.

Secrets of the Sesvete Bunkers – A Walk Through Forgotten Military History
The Prigorje Museum, as part of the European Mobility Week 2025, is organizing a walk open to all citizens. The walk begins in the historic center of Sesvete, in front of the Prigorje Museum. After a brief introduction, participants will head toward Kelekova Street, where three reinforced concrete bunkers, built in the 1950s, are located. Today neglected, partially ruined, or fully integrated into the surroundings, these structures still bear witness to Sesvete’s former geostrategic importance and form an important part of the local identity.

The walk lasts approximately two hours and offers insight into a history that, although hidden, continues to live on in the space and in the community’s collective memory.

The Prigorje Museum is organizing a workshop for children and adults in which participants will choose words that, for them, represent nature, community, or sustainability, and write them on recycled paper embedded with seeds. The papers will then be planted in the ground, symbolically “sowing” messages that can grow into plants. The workshop combines creative expression with ecological awareness, encouraging reflection on words that can change the world.

Creative Workshop: By Bike or Scooter to the Destination!
Klovićevi Dvori Gallery, on the occasion of European Mobility Week, is organizing a creative workshop titled “By Bike or Scooter to the Destination!”

Ride a bike or a scooter—but not electric! Use the “old-fashioned” push kind, which is safer and more suitable for you young participants. Travel to an artwork in your neighborhood and describe it according to the following instructions:

What or who does the artwork depict?

Name of the artist (usually on the pedestal)

Material from which it is made

Height, width, and depth of the piece (only if you have a measuring tape handy)

The neighborhood where the artwork is located

Reason for choosing this particular artwork

Since you traveled to the artwork by bike or scooter, describe your vehicle as well. I’m especially interested in its color and why you chose that color—or, if you had no choice when buying it, still tell me your favorite color and why.

When you arrive at our Artionica on September 20th at 11 a.m., you will create a cardboard bike or scooter and paint it in your favorite color.

We look forward to seeing you!

Dog Walk in Dotrščina Park Forest
A dog walk will take place in the city park forest of Dotrščina, located in the Podsljeme City District, near Maksimir Park. The walk will be led by experts from the Zagreb City Zoo, who will offer dog owners possible solutions for better socialization, tips on teaching tricks, and provide basic information about the animals that are permanent residents or occasional visitors of the city forests—wildlife—and how all these forest inhabitants and visitors coexist.

Dotrščina Park Forest is a protected cultural site. Covering approximately 223 hectares, it is ideal for a pleasant, easy walk, as the terrain is mostly flat and the paths are not steep.

In the heart of Zagreb, just a few hundred meters from the Sisters of Mercy University Hospital in Vinogradska Street, lies the Jelenovac Park Forest. In addition to its park infrastructure and maintained trails, along the path by the Jelenovac stream there is also a small outdoor gym.

We invite all citizens to register for the event: a Nordic walking coach from the Active Life Sports Recreation Society will introduce participants to the basics and rules of Nordic walking, after which everyone will join a circular training session through the Jelenovac forest and along the Jelenovac stream. The trail is of low to medium difficulty.

A City for Everyone – Creative Workshop for Children
During this activity, children will imagine, draw, and model the city of the future—with ramps, bike lanes, accessible buses, and robots that help people move around.

Librarians will guide the workshop by asking questions such as:

Where will you place the bike lanes?

How will grandma get to the park?

What does a bus that is accessible to everyone look like?

The goal is to raise awareness of inclusion and sustainability through play.

At the end, a small exhibition of the children’s works will be organized in the library’s children’s section and/or in an online gallery on the library’s website.

The activity primarily involves rafting on the Sava River, from the Adriatic Bridge to the Railway Bridge, where participants will have the opportunity to get to know the Sava River, see the City of Zagreb from a different perspective — from the water — stop at gravel banks between the bridges, cross over to the opposite bank in New Zagreb, and hear a few words about nature conservation and ecology, as well as about the activities of the Canoeing Federation of Zagreb and how participants themselves can get involved.

The program will be carried out by six professional canoeing coaches, the Federation’s secretary, and two licensed experts responsible for safety and rescue on wild rivers. Before rafting down the Sava, all participants will go through a short introduction on the basic equipment used in canoeing, safety and rescue rules, and fundamental paddling techniques.

Educational Walk “In Zagorka’s Footsteps”
The Peščenica Retirement Home in Zagreb, in cooperation with the Marija Jurić Zagorka Society, is organizing a simulation of a walk through the landmarks, squares, and streets of Kaptol and the Upper Town (from Dolac 8, along Ivana Tkalčića Street and Krvavi Most Street, to the Stone Gate, St. Mark’s Square, and Lotrščak Tower).

The asphalt paths in the park next to the Peščenica Retirement Home will be marked with the names of the squares, streets, and landmarks of the planned walking route. A costumed “Zagorka” will create the impression of visiting locations connected to the writer and journalist Marija Jurić Zagorka, whose 152nd birthday was celebrated this year, for residents who are functionally dependent on assisted living.

Goal of the activity: To provide residents who are partially or fully limited in independent movement with the experience of walking through Kaptol and the Upper Town. Through descriptions of locations, as well as anecdotes and events related to them, the walk will be simulated in a safe public space, enabling participants to enjoy “enhanced” mobility and an imagined stroll through the city center.

Recreational Walk “To Maksimir We Go — by Tram, by Bus, or with a Light Step”
As part of the European Mobility Week 2025, a walk is planned for the users of the Gerontological Center of the Peščenica Retirement Home, Zagreb. The program follows a recreational walking route adapted for older adults in Maksimir Nature Park: from Fakultetsko Dobro, past the 4th and 5th lakes along the Maksimir Park promenade, to the 2nd and 1st lakes, where participants will take advantage of the free boat rides offered by the Public Institution PP Maksimir during Mobility Week.

The walk will also include relaxation exercises guided by a physiotherapy technician.

Goal of the activity: Through the use of sustainable modes of transport and walking — which also raises awareness of the importance of mindful relaxation and proper breathing — participants will enjoy time in the nature park while making use of the free services provided by PP Maksimir. In this way, the quality of active aging in the city is enhanced by using the resources the city offers.

LIFE CityTRAQ Project – Implementing a Network of Sensor Units and Data Analysis
As part of the European Mobility Week, the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service will present the national project “Traffic Model for Better Urban Air Quality Policy.” The lecture will address key questions about air quality: what air quality is, which pollutants exist, how they are measured, and how poor air quality affects human health. A special focus will be placed on the connection between traffic congestion and air pollution in urban areas. Air pollution is recognized as the single greatest environmental health risk in Europe, with a significant share of the population exposed to concentrations of pollutants above legally prescribed limit values.

Within the framework of the LIFE CityTRAQ project, a network of sensor stations for monitoring air quality has been implemented in the City of Zagreb, with special focus on locations with high traffic intensity. The collected data enable analysis of pollutants in the air and support the development of modeling tools that integrate mobility and emissions data in order to identify effective measures for reducing air pollution. These tools provide local authorities with the ability to make evidence-based decisions and to plan public policies aimed at reducing air pollution and protecting citizens’ health.

The lecture is intended for primary and secondary school students, as well as for interested members of the public.

Workshop “Are We More Skillful than Our Ancestors?”
As part of the European Mobility Week 2025, the Nikola Tesla Technical Museum is organizing a workshop where participants will try their hand at riding a replica of the velocipede, the so-called “boneshaker,” and test their agility.

The bicycle, created by Mario Mirković and exhibited in the Transport Department of the Museum, is an eye-catching model with an enlarged front wheel designed to achieve higher speed. This type of bicycle was ridden in the 19th century and was the model that initiated the mass production and use of bicycles for everyday transportation. Although often regarded as a dangerous and even comical vehicle, it significantly contributed to the popularity and further development of the bicycle.

Children’s Training in Riding Scooters and Bicycles
As part of the European Mobility Week, the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences is organizing training sessions for children in riding scooters and bicycles. The planned activities will last two school hours.

In the first hour, students will attend a presentation, receive instruction, and have their knowledge tested on traffic regulations. In the second hour, the practical part will take place, with a skills course set up in the museum courtyard, where participants will ride bicycles or electric scooters, and take part in a presentation using the interactive Mentimeter application (each student is encouraged to bring a mobile phone, tablet, or similar device to participate in the presentation and traffic rules quiz). The most successful participants will receive promotional gifts from the Faculty.

The skills course is designed for 5th and 6th grade children using bicycles, and for 7th and 8th grade children using electric scooters.

Purpose of the activity: To educate children in the use of active modes of transport in order to increase their safety as participants in traffic.
