School road safety campaign at Auensee School (Schulstraßenaktion Schule am Auensee)
The school road campaign organized by the Schule am Auensee in cooperation with Verkehrswende Leipzig will close the road in front of our school to motorized traffic on September 19, 2025. Our goal is to make the street safer and more attractive for our students and to draw attention to the problematic traffic situation. We are redesigning the area, temporarily closing it to cars, and opening it up to pedestrians, cyclists, and children. With measures such as barriers and events, we are focusing attention on safe routes to school and traffic-calmed zones.

PARK(ing)-Day Eisenbahnstraße 2025
This year, visitors can once again enjoy a family-friendly event in the 100 parking spaces on Eisenbahnstraße (between Torgauer Platz and Hermann-Liebmann-Straße). The vision of the future becomes visible: no cars, people sitting, eating, or chatting in the parking spaces, indoor palm trees on the street, a table tennis table, and children playing in the outdoor playground. The central element this year is a neighborhood table, where you are invited to bring something to eat.

Citizen-friendly cycling (Bürgernaher Radverkehr)
Leipzig will continue to expand its network of cycle paths in the future. This must be prioritized. Visitors can use an interactive map to indicate which cycle paths are particularly important to them.
For years, BUND Leipzig has been working with other stakeholders to promote cycling in our city. Through pop-up bike lanes, i.e., temporary bike lanes that are set up for just one day, BUND Leipzig draws attention to the fact that a bike lane is missing at this exact location. This is because bike lanes are safe and give cyclists the space they need in traffic.

For safely crossing Zweinaundorfer Straße (Für eine sichere Querung der Zweinaundorfer Straße)
Many people need to cross Zweinaundorfer Straße. They want to catch the bus, the S-Bahn, or cycle to Lene-Voigt-Park. But cars are constantly rushing by, overtaking the bus at the stop or driving criss-cross to the gas station or into the adjacent side streets.
If you want this situation to change, then come along! If you want to see how crossing the road can be done differently, then join in! With this campaign and workshop, we, the Bürgerverein Anger-Crottendorf e.V., would like to use a mobile zebra crossing and get people talking to each other.

Out of the parking lot. Walking between the park, parking lot, and car-sharing island. (Ausgeparkt. Zu Fuß unterwegs zwischen Park, Parkfläche und Carsharing-Insel)
Parked cars have long been such a common sight on our streets that we hardly notice them anymore. But this world could be different—a world with fewer cars. And people would still be able to get around. On this walk, walking researcher Bertram Weisshaar from FUSS e. V. and teilAuto regional manager Thomas Bendzulla will use their background knowledge to sharpen our view from a pedestrian's perspective: How can car sharing and other measures help to save parking spaces in the long term? Which backyards and public spaces could be greened?

Making the mobility revolution tangible (Mobilitätswende erlebbar machen)
The demands on road space are immense: how much space do pedestrians, cyclists, public transport, and car traffic need? Can we plant trees that provide shade and cool the space? Do we need loading and delivery zones, seating areas, and space for outdoor seating and shop displays?
The City of Leipzig's Mobility and Civil Engineering Office invites you to join the conversation about the streets of tomorrow and try out the design of the side space for yourself in a playful way.
Information will also be provided about the expansion of pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure.

PARK(ing) Day Leipzig (PARK(ing) Day Leipzig)
Ökolöwe invites you: More space for people instead of cars: That's the PARK(ing) Day motto! The international day of action takes place on September 19 and transforms parking spaces into green, car-free parks, including in Leipzig!
Normally, Leipzig's parking spaces are filled with cars. Empty cars that park between the street and the sidewalk for an average of 23 hours a day, blocking public space. On PARK(ing) Day, the street scene looks different: deck chairs, hammocks, picnic blankets, plants, and sofas instead of cars. Anyone can participate. Detailed instructions can be found at: www.oekoloewe.de

Exhibition: From Parkbogen Ost to Leipzig Central Station. Where integrated urban development and sustainable mobility planning meet (Ausstellung: Vom Parkbogen Ost zum Leipziger Hauptbahnhof. Wo integrierte Stadtentwicklung und nachhaltige Mobilitätsplanung aufeinandertreffen)
The exhibition presents Parkbogen Ost (Pabo) as an 8 km long cycle and footpath system on former railway tracks in the east of Leipzig. The project shows the sustainable redevelopment of disused infrastructure into an “activity belt” for the local population. The winning design, the current status, and a guest contribution from the University of Weimar on the further development of Pabo with its version of the Nordspange are presented. The Polygraphplatz subproject impressively shows the development of the oversized intersection into a multifunctional, green city square.

BookTalkWalk (BookTalkWalk)
Walking is the most basic form of mobility. What's more, the choice of mode of transport shapes our understanding of the world and our thinking about cities and urban nature, mobility, and social interaction. Like the philosophers of ancient Greece, we at Transformatorenwerk Leipzig and the Deutsches Buch- und Schriftenmuseum want to think and talk to each other while walking. This BookTalkWalk embarks on a journey of thought together with Environment Mayor Heiko Rosenthal. The book he discusses, “The Buzz in the Meadow” by Dave Goulson, provides guidance along the way.

Transportation Transition Forum Leipzig at the ADFC: Inspiration for a livable city (Verkehrswende Forum Leipzig beim ADFC: Inspirationen für eine lebenswerte Stadt)
How can mobility change be achieved in Europe's major cities? The ADFC invites you to a visual travel report to Brussels, London, Paris, Antwerp, and Hamburg. It shows how redesigned streets and squares with sponge city characteristics, intelligent traffic calming, and green school and garden streets are redefining quality of life. We also want to take a look at how German cities are combining local mobility and climate adaptation with award-winning projects. We have lots of inspiration and ideas for Leipzig in our luggage.
Speaker: Philipp Böhme (cycling planner, ADFC Leipzig e.V.)
