Establishment of available facilities / infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians is a priority in Bergen. Pedestrian / bike paths or lanes have been established in 2006 from the city centre to different areas of the City. Vasekerelven, a street in the city centre has been rehabilitated with facilities for bicycles.
Bicycle parking facilities have been placed in the city centre. Bike route signage is now set up in Bergen. A new bicycle map, brochures and presentations via Internet have been created in connection with Mobility Week. For the past three years, bus fares have been frozen in Bergen and extra subsidies have been secured to increase frequency on certain trunk routes. Bybanen: Bergen Light Rail is now in final design and construction will begin soon.CNG – buses are used to a great extent, especially on routes near the city centre.
Car-free day
Bergen (City of Bergen)
carries out a Car-free day 2006 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
