Raildays - Take a Behind-the-Scenes Look!
Open Day at HTM De Werf – Take a Behind-the-Scenes Look!

On Friday, 20 September, HTM’s De Werf location will open its doors to everyone interested in discovering the work that goes on behind our trams. This is a unique opportunity to observe – and participate in – the world of technology, infrastructure, and mobility.

What to Expect:
See and experience it yourself! Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by colleagues from the Vehicles and Infrastructure departments. They will demonstrate how they work every day to ensure the maintenance and reliability of our fleet and rail network. Expect demonstrations of technical inspections, explanations of maintenance processes, and even guided access to the workshops where trams are serviced.

Would you like to try it yourself? Absolutely! During the Open Day, there will be several hands-on activities. For example, you can carry out a small technical task or step inside a tram driver’s cab. Our employees will be on hand to answer your questions and share their passion for their work.

For Students and Career Starters:
Are you currently enrolled in an MBO or HBO program? Then this day is also a great opportunity to get to know HTM as a potential internship location or future employer. Our team will gladly inform you about the opportunities to learn and grow within HTM.

The Stadsspelen (City Games) - Spectacular Grand Finale of The Hague Sports Summer
Get Pedaling! Cycling Activities at the Closing Event of The Hague Sports Summer

From 21 June through 21 September, The Hague celebrates sports, exercise, and cycling. Throughout the summer, you can watch top athletes in action during various (international) events and take part in one of the nine Hague Sports Summer Festivals. At these festivals, there is something for everyone – including plenty on two wheels. Whether you want to learn BMX, try virtual cycling, or pedal your own smoothie on the smoothie bike – it is all possible!

Cycling Fun for All Ages

During the free sports festivals in various neighborhoods of The Hague, children aged 4 to 12 can discover a wide range of sports under supervision, including exciting cycling activities. You can:

* Learn to BMX on a challenging course
* Experience virtual cycling and race against your friends
* Compete in a cycling-table challenge
* Make smoothies on the smoothie bike – healthy and fun!

These activities are not only enjoyable but also promote cycling skills, balance, and the joy of being active.

A Sporty Summer for Everyone. Alderman for Sports, Hilbert Bredemeijer, encourages everyone to take part:

“Whether it is panna football, sailing, or watching Beach Rugby at Scheveningen: it will be a fantastic sports summer in The Hague. During this Hague Sports Summer there is plenty to experience in the city. We want to inspire residents of The Hague, both young and old, to get moving. I invite everyone to join in the activities and visit the events.”

Grand Finale: The Stadsspelen:
The summer will come to a festive close with the Stadsspelen (City Games) on 20 and 21 September in the Zuiderpark. Here too, you can hop on a bike and explore new forms of exercise.

Share your opinion and make an impact!
How Do You Want to See Your City?

How do you envision your neighborhood and your city? Are you satisfied with the way things are now, or do you dream of more green spaces, safer streets, or additional room for your bike, scooter, or car?

Perhaps you want it all – more livable space for yourself and your (grand)children. Or maybe you have a completely different vision for your neighborhood.

We are eager to hear your ideas! What would you like to see when you step out your front door? And how would you contribute to creating a more pleasant living environment?

Share your opinion and make an impact! The more people complete the survey, the better we can represent what the city thinks. So take a few minutes to fill it in, and keep an eye on our website, newsletter, and social media channels.

Get involved – it only takes a few minutes! You can complete the survey anonymously.

Fat Tire Race for children
Rabo Fat Tire Races are free cycling competitions where children participate on their own bikes. Participation is possible on a regular (city) bike, mountain bike, or cyclo-cross bike with a minimum tire width of 28 millimeters. Participants are divided into different classes based on age, ranging from 2–4 years (balance bikes) up to 11–12 years.

This way, The Hague introduces children to cycling in a fun and accessible manner, and we also aim to encourage this target group to use the bicycle more often.

Campaign: Moving Forward Together
The Municipality of The Hague is launching the campaign Moving Forward Together, as a local extension of the European awareness campaign on sustainable travel. The aim of the campaign is to inform and encourage companies, schools, associations, community centres, and residents to consider alternatives to traditional travel behaviour.

The focus is on sustainable and active modes of transport, such as cycling, public transport, and walking. These choices not only contribute to a cleaner environment but also offer clear benefits for the traveller: sustainable travel is often faster, healthier, and improves the overall quality of life in the city.

With Moving Forward Together, The Hague seeks to strengthen the public dialogue on mobility, promote behavioural change, and demonstrate that sustainable choices are both feasible and attractive.

As part of this campaign, The Hague will organize a Mobility Festival, during which one of the city’s streets will be made “car-free.” In its place, a variety of enjoyable and educational activities will be offered to promote active, sustainable, and safe mobility.

Employees of The Municipality can try a E-bike for free
The municipality, as an employer, encourages her employees to cycle. In collaboration with the MRDH an e-bike pool is set up for employees to experience what it's like to ride the e-bike to a meeting somewhere in the city ('business trips') or to bridge the distance between home and work. During the European Mobility Week employees of the Municipality are called to register for renting an e-bike for two weeks, for free!
