Detailed description (English): Slow City Game is a cooperative board game that promotes road safety and safe, sustainable mobility among children and adolescents. It was originally developed by students from the Faculty of Education at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) as part of an Erasmus+ exchange between youth in Barcelona and Slovenia. Since then, P(A)T has integrated and adapted the game as an educational tool in schools and youth centers across various cities.
Players move across the board as pedestrians or drivers, facing real-world challenges: resolving conflicts, defending 30 km/h zones, and rethinking how streets can be made safer. The activity fosters empathy, critical thinking, and teamwork.
Facilitated by a road safety education expert, the game invites reflection on public space, pedestrian rights, and shared responsibility in urban mobility. Key messages include: “Cities slow down to protect life” and “Mobility is for everyone.”
Aligned with the 2025 theme, the project empowers young people as active citizens who question urban speed from a child’s perspective.
Slow City Game will be implemented during European Mobility Week in various schools (on demand), and is easily replicable across diverse educational and community settings.
