Detailed description (English): This activity, part of European Mobility Week, seeks to transform the way the educational community perceives and addresses air pollution. The initiative focuses on practical action: making the invisible visible by measuring air quality during daily commutes to schools.
The activity is divided into two main phases:
1. Commuting Measurement Phase: A group of students and educators, equipped with portable air quality sensors, will travel along the school access routes. Measurements will be taken on bicycles. The sensors will record key data such as levels of particulate matter (PM2.5). At the end of this phase, a comparative dataset will be obtained showing how exposure to pollution varies drastically depending on the choice of transport mode.
2. Training Workshop Phase: Using the data collected, an interactive and dynamic workshop will be organized for the entire educational community. Using maps and visual graphics, the measurement results will be presented in a clear and accessible way. The workshop will explain what air pollutants are, their effects on health, especially respiratory health, and their direct relationship with motorized traffic. This space for reflection will promote discussion about sustainable mobility alternatives and encourage participants to propose solutions to improve the environment around their school and neighborhood.
Target group(s): Based on the action "Al cole sin humos" (To school without smoke), the target groups are:
Comunidad educativa: This includes students, teachers, and school staff.
Población en general: This includes parents, guardians, and the broader community.
Objectives: -Measure and make air quality visible: Collect data on pollution levels during commutes to schools. This data will serve to tangibly demonstrate the difference in air quality between different modes of transportation and environments.
- Raise awareness and educate the community: Conduct interactive workshops with students, teachers, and families. These workshops will explain what air pollutants are, how they affect our health and the environment, and how transportation choices directly influence the quality of the air we breathe.
- Promote sustainable mobility habits
