Detailed description (English): The "Al Gumiel by Bike" project, launched in 2023, seeks to reduce the carbon footprint and promote sustainable habits through cycling. Its goal is to raise awareness about sustainable mobility and value the positive impact of small actions on the environment.
Participation is open to all students at the institute, and there are voluntary incentives. Some departments offer academic credit for the activity, and each month a snack voucher is raffled off among the students who cycle the most. Students can also help spread the word about the project through posters, articles, or podcasts.
The participation process is simple: those interested provide the distance between their home and the school and receive an identification badge with a unique number to register their bicycle attendance. This data is used to calculate the CO₂ saved, considering that for every kilometer traveled by bicycle instead of by car, 150 grams of CO₂ are saved.
To encourage participation, a safe route has been created on Thursdays, where teachers escort students from a meeting point to the school. Bicycle excursions, supervised by teachers, are also organized.
With this initiative, IES Arquitecto Pedro Gumiel reinforces its commitment to sustainability and environmental education, promoting the use of bicycles as an alternative means of transportation.
Detailed description (original language): Se han creado dos grupos de trabajo para realizar el proyecto. Uno de los grupos
está formado por profesores y el otro por alumnos. Ambos grupos están coordinados
desde la Jefatura de Estudios del IES Arquitecto Pedro Gumiel.
- Presentación del proyecto:
Para los profesores se realizó en el primer claustro del curso y en las reuniones de
los departamentos y para los alumnos se realizó a través de la primera Junta de
Delegados del curso. Los delegados comunicaron el proyecto a sus respectivas clases. A
las familias se presentó el proyecto a través de circulares informativas.
- Inscripción en el proyecto:
Los alumnos interesados en participar usando como medio de transporte la
bicicleta rellenaron una ficha con su nombre, curso y distancia desde su domicilio al
centro.
- Desarrollo del proyecto:
Se han desarrollado siete líneas de actuación.
o Registro de los alumnos inscritos en el proyecto que vienen en bicicleta
cada día.
o Sorteo mensual de bocadillos de la cafetería del centro entre los alumnos
que más días vienen al instituto cada mes. Y sorteo de un premio al final de
curso entre los alumnos que acumulen más días.
o Valoración a nivel académico de la participación en el proyecto. Esta
valoración se lleva a cabo por los departamentos de Educación Física, de
Biología y Geología, de Física y Química, de Geografía e Historia y de
Economía.
o Difusión del proyecto y registro de logros alcanzados. Realizada por un
grupo de 30 alumnos de 1º y 2º de Bachillerato. Por medio de carteles
informativos, información en las clases, realización de podcasts y artículos
periodísticos.

Objectives: Given the growth of the "Al Gumiel en bici" project, this year we have set a goal of having 5% of the students (approximately 35) enrolled at IES Arquitecto Pedro Gumiel attend school using bicycles as a means of transportation on a continuous basis throughout the school year.
If this goal is achieved, it will improve mobility in the city and significantly contribute to reducing CO2 and other polluting gas emissions. This will help create a safer and healthier urban environment and reduce the financial costs associated with conventional transportation. It also promotes daily physical activity, which benefits students' health and academic performance. It also serves to promote values and environmental awareness among young people.
