Detailed description (English): The cities of Don Benito & Villanueva de la Serena are only 5 km apart, constituting the third functional urban metropolitan area of Extremadura region.
The road that connects both cities has the highest levels of daily motor vehicle traffic in all of Extremadura region. This road not only connects the two urban centers, but also gives access to the hospital that is located between both cities, as well as commercial and service areas.
The main objective of this MOBILITYACTION is to reduce travel by private vehicle and promote sustainable mobility with non-motorized modes between cities. Likewise, intermodality will also be promoted, since the new infrastructure will connect the bus stations of both towns, as well as the urban cycling network of each of them.
The MOBILITYACTION consists of the construction of an interurban cycling and pedestrian lane along 7.4 km between the two towns, annexed to the road that connects them, in both directions and segregated from it, to guarantee safety and modal transfer towards active mobility modes.
With this MOBILITYACTION, the improvement of shared public space is achieved, allowing citizens to move in a sustainable and healthy way of transport.
This action is financed by the EU Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, within its component C01- Action plan to ensure sustainable, safe and connected mobility in urban and metropolitan areas and is also included in the framework of the Extremadura Sustainable Mobility Plan 2030 (ESMP).
Detailed description (original language): Las ciudades de Don Benito y Villanueva de la Serena se encuentran separadas tan solo 5 km de distancia, constituyendo la tercera área funcional metropolitana de Extremadura.
La carretera que las une presenta los mayores niveles de tráfico diario de vehículos motorizados de toda Extremadura. Esta carretera no sólo une los dos núcleos urbanos, sino que da acceso al hospital que se encuentra entre ambas ciudades, así como a zonas comerciales y de servicios.
La acción planteada tiene como principal objetivo reducir los desplazamientos en vehículo privado y favorecer la movilidad sostenible con modos no motorizados entre ambos núcleos de población. Asimismo, se promoverá también la intermodalidad, ya que la nueva infraestructura conectará las estaciones de autobuses de ambas poblaciones, así como la red ciclista urbana de cada uno de los municipios.
La actuación consiste en la construcción de un itinerario ciclista y peatonal interurbano a lo largo de 7,4 km entre las dos poblaciones, anexo a la carretera que las une, en ambos sentidos y segregado de la misma, para garantizar la seguridad y el trasvase modal hacia modos de movilidad activa.
Con esta actuación se consigue la mejora del espacio público compartido, permitiendo a los ciudadanos moverse en medios de transporte sostenibles y saludables.
Esta actuación se encuentra financiada por el Mecanismo de Recuperación y Resiliencia de la Unión Europea e incluida en el marco del Plan Extremeño de Movilidad Sostenible 2030 .
