Detailed description (English): This activity, held in the European Mobility Week, aims to transform society's perception of pollution and the ways of facing it.
This action's goal is to act in a practical way. To make visible what is invisible, through the measurement of air quality
in the daily home-school commuting of students.
Activities are divided into two phases.
first phase.
1. Cycling commuting measurement.: A group of students and teachers will make the school routes of the neighbourhood with a portable air quality sensor on different means of transportation.
Air data will be collected and geolocalised with key measurements such as PM 2.5.
At the end of this phase, data on different means of transportation will be compared to check variations.
2. Formative workshop phase.
With the collected data, an interactive and dynamic workshop will be organised for the school community.
Using maps and visual graphics, the measurements and results will be clearly and accurately presented.
The workshop will be useful to explain air pollutants, their effects on health, especially on the respiratory system, and their direct relation to motor traffic.
This reflection aims to promote discussions about sustainable mobility alternatives and encourage participants to propose and implement solutions.
Target group(s): Students, families, teachers, local politicians, press and town mayor and counselors.
Objectives: To encourage families and students to move actively, to pacify, at least, school streets and to claim for healthy air.
