Detailed description (English): The intervention fulfils a neighbourhood petition within the Hobetuz citizen participation programme. In this programme, the residents asked to widen the pavements and access to an old neighbourhood, which is often inaccessible for people with motor disabilities and which has a predominant carriageway. As there was not enough space to widen the pavements and allow safety vehicles to pass, it was decided to improve pedestrian mobility, giving pedestrians priority over vehicles in the streets and limiting the speed of traffic to 20 km/hour. To this end, overpasses were created at the entrances and exits of the roads and signposted as a shared space.
These works respond to the needs of the residents and form part of the city's plan to make the streets safer and more accessible, thus improving the quality of life for everyone.
Abetxuko is now a more pedestrianised neighbourhood with safer and friendlier streets, where cars respect people.
Detailed description (original language): La intervención cumple con una petición vecinal dentro del programa de participación ciudadana Hobetuz. En éste, los vecinos pedían ampliar las aceras y los accesos de un barrio antiguo, en muchos casos inaccesible para ciudadanos con discapacidad motora y que tiene una calzada de circulación predominante. Al no disponer de espacio suficiente para ampliar aceras y dar paso a los vehículos de seguridad, se decide mejorar la movilidad peatonal, dando en las calles prioridad al peatón sobre los vehículos y limitando la velocidad del tráfico a 20 km / hora. Para ello se crean pasos elevados a la entrada y salida de los viales y se señaliza como espacio compartido.
Estas obras responden a las necesidades de los vecinos y forman parte del plan de la ciudad para hacer las calles más seguras y accesibles, mejorando así la calidad de vida de todos. Abetxuko es ya un barrio más peatonal con calles más seguras y amables, donde los coches respetan a las personas.
