Detailed description (English): Unlocking the potential of data reuse is essential to addressing mobility challenges faced by cities and regions. From traffic congestion to accessibility, passing by infrastructure, and safety, these challenges require the effective use of data to make informed decisions about transportation planning and policy. However, from our experience, cities and regions can face challenges such as the lack of infrastructure to re-use data, which is frequently accompanied by high costs. For this reason, the European Commission offers the Big Data Test Infrastructure (BDTI), a free, ready-to-use, open-source stack that aims to help you derive insights from your data and tackle your mobility challenges. The BDTI can not only be used by public administrations at the local, regional, and national levels but also as part of public-private partnerships with startups and academia. Several European administrations have already embarked on the BDTI journey to develop a data-informed public sector. For example, the city of Florence analyzed mobility data to inform policy and determine how key activities such as tourism could re-start safely after COVID-19. This is one of the many BDTI success stories. Visit our page to learn more about other BDTI pilots and kickstart your own data analytics journey!
Target group(s): The BDTI can not only be used by public administrations at local, regional and national level, but also as part of public private partnerships with startups and academia.
Objectives: To help European local and regional administrations to re-use their data to tackle their mobility challenges and foster the development of a data-informed public sector.
